What next for HRT?
Red Bull only left with one choice, but will they take it?
As I have been saying for weeks now, Christian Horner must back Mark Webber for the Championship or risk losing it. After an eventful Korean Grand Prix, it is looking rather more like the latter of those two statements.
Everything looked rosy for the Championship leaders after qualifying with the team securing their 8th front row lockout of the season. But all that was before ...
Alternative to Airburshing Tamiya Semi-Gloss Black?
Hey guys,
I was just wondering if anyone knew of a good enamel substitute for Tamiya's dreaded X-18 semi-gloss black.
I've all but given up on trying to airbrush this stuff, because as far as I'm concerned, it's next to bloody impossible. I can't seem to airbrush any variant of Tamiya black properly, and it's getting very annoying to have to keep bathing parts in Simple Green to start again.
So, I've never worked with enamels before, but I've heard they act quite a bit nicer than some acrylics in terms of leveling out after being ab'd. I'm sick of getting that dry, pebbly look that I just keep getting with X-1/X-18 and so on.
Thanks for any advice!

Ferrari adopts Red Bull-style exhaust for Valencia
June 20 '10
Ferrari's B version of the F10 will reportedly feature a Red Bull-style exhaust system at Valencia. The information appeared in Spain's AS newspaper, whose reporters believe ? from Ferrari sources ? that the heavily restyled car will be from 0.3 to 0.4 seconds quicker per lap as compared to the recent races in Turkey and Canada.
According to the same report, the updated Ferrari challenger will feature a modified rear suspension as well, in order to better integrate the new exhausts. The new layout is expected to open a bigger channel of air ?to double the downforce generated by the diffuser,? as reported by the GMM news agency, quoting AS.
Ferrari have been preparing for the Valencia update for quite some time now, having lost a lot of time developing the F-duct system until now. This was actually the main reason why their car has become less competitive as compared to the championship front-runners, as argued by team boss Stefano Domenicali himself.
?For Valencia, the focus has been on other areas of the car apart from the (F-duct) rear wing,? said the Ferrari principal, according to Brazil's Globo. His comment was strengthened by Alonso's outspoken belief that the revised package for Valencia will set the base for a whole new perspective for Ferrari for the rest of the 2010 season.
?The most important improvement in Valencia is not what we achieve there, but the way it opens us developments to be stronger for the remainder of the season,? said Alonso.
At Ferrari?s own Fiorano test circuit on Friday (18th June), Fernando Alonso drove the F10 for the ?promotional and filming? reasons as permitted by the test ban.
But, as confirmed by Italian media sources, the 2010 car was in its full Valencia specification, including Red Bull-style low exhausts, designed to channel more air to the double-diffuser.
?You have to make the most of any opportunity in this era of the testing ban,? the Italian team said.
A 14 seconds video below, with Alonso testing the F10b in Fiorano was leaked on Youtube and f1around.files.wordpress.com compiled the image and compared it beautifully with that of Ferrari F10 and Red Bull RB6 as seen above.

WIRE WHEELS
I don,t remember if I did, but if I didn,t , here,s a heads-up on some very sweet wire wheels. I had been having a conversation with ERNIE PETIT of LINDBERG and I asked about the wire wheels that come in the fifty-three ford VICTORIA kit. I don,t think you could do it now , but you could call their customer service and see. ERNIE just gave me the name and address and I took it from there.I was able to go to their outside source for a dozen sets of those babies. You will see them on my BUICK ELECTRA(MODEL KING ) and a few others..I was desperate as ALL my REAL BUICKS and T-BIRDS always were ordered with KELSEY -HAYES wire wheels.Yes , they are a pain to clean , but, they look so darn good.I have one set that I know came with an AMT kit but I can,t remember which one! Those were better , but , there is a problem. Over the years I lost one so I only have three! The reason I have wire wheels on the brain, is , I just got my re-release of REVELL,S AUSTIN-HEALY-100-six. They still haven,t chromed the wire wheels that on the real car are chrome.!! I did , don,t laugh , foil chrome one and it didn,t look bad.Remember these wheels are molded in halves WITH the tire molded on each half, and they are definitely SKINNIES !! So , I can,t use the LINDBERG wires without changing the tires. I Will !! Well , there you have it ! chao---oldcarguy P.S. They won,t fit the CADDY ELDORADO BROUGHAM KIT.

Official F1 2010 game by Codemasters arrives in September
July 7 '10
"F1 2010" is an upcoming official game of the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship and will include all of the official 12 teams, 24 drivers and 19 circuits from the 2010 season. It will be released in September 2010 on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Windows platforms. Before the opening race of the South Korean Grand Prix in October, players can drive the new Korean International Circuit!
Some of the features of the game have been revealed in the F1 2010 developer videos (below) by Codemasters Studios.
Tracks and Cars
The new video takes viewers behind the scenes at F1 2010 developers, Codemasters Birmingham, and shows how all of the cars and circuits from the exhilarating 2010 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP? have been painstakingly recreated in the game.
To deliver fans the most authentic FORMULA ONE? experience, CAD (Computer Aided Design) data and extensive reference photography has been used to accurately simulate the 19 circuits that will host the 2010 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP. Once tracks are created, former FORMULA ONE driver Anthony Davidson, who is working as Technical Consultant on F1 2010, gives his feedback from a driver?s perspective about the look and feel of each circuit in-game.
?Driving the real world circuits enables me to give that impression to the guys creating the game,? said Davidson. ?There?s all these details that only a driver would know about. For instance, turn eight in Spa; I know straight away any car I have ever driven there always understeers and it?s knowing that kind of detail as a driver that you can get over into the game. The circuits feel really spot on.?
Weather
In the video, the wide ranging effects of weather and their impact in the game are revealed. FORMULA ONE test driver Anthony Davidson explains that although you have some information about the weather at your disposal, how you use that information is crucial: ?The teams know by the radar where the weather is coming from and how long it?s going to last. You?ll be aware of what the weather?s doing roughly, and then you can make your call, just like you would in real life.?
In career mode, F1 2010?s weather system is fully dynamic, mirroring real life conditions which change at any time, whether between sessions or during a session itself. The weather authentically reflects the conditions at each of the 19 GRAND PRIX? locations, meaning rain is unlikely at Abu Dhabi but conditions can be unpredictable at Spa and Silverstone. Presenting a further challenge, players can set the weather conditions and experience the dramatic affect they have on racing in GRAND PRIX, Time Trial and Multiplayer modes.
Handling
Anthony Davidson, who has been embedded into the team, explains the unique ?twitchy? way in which FORMULA ONE cars handle and how this is translated into authentic gameplay. His experience, combined with real world data and feedback from the teams, drivers and tyre manufacturers is enabling the F1 2010 team to bring alive the sensation of being an F1 racing driver like never before. As in real life, aerodynamics plays a pivotal role in racing, and players will feel how cars can corner at extremely high speed yet perform very differently at lower speeds.

Your classic grand prix - race 16
The 1993 Japanese Grand Prix is the selected race in the latest edition of our classic Formula 1 series.
Last week, we asked readers to tell us which of three great races they would most like to see - the 1990, 1993 and 1995 Japanese Grands Prix - and the overwhelming choice was Ayrton Senna's victory in 1993.
The full 'Grand Prix' highlights programme broadcast on the BBC at the time is embedded below, with the shorter highlights of it and the other races linked underneath. There are also short and long highlights of Sebastian Vettel's victory in an incident-packed Suzuka race last year, too.
In order to see this content you need to have both Javascript enabled and Flash installed. Visit BBC Webwise for full instructions. If you're reading via RSS, you'll need to visit the blog to access this content.

Because of the Commonwealth Games, the classic races will not be shown on the red button, either on digital and satellite or on Freeview.
I have to say that I was surprised by just how popular the 1993 race was - it outdid the other two choices by something like five to one.
The 1993 race witnessed a great drive by Senna, and was full of action and intrigue both during the race and afterwards, but I have to say I thought the famous crash between Senna and Alain Prost at the start in 1990 would be the most popular choice.
There was all the drama of the start, Nigel Mansell putting paid to his chances by breaking his Ferrari's driveshaft with an over-exuberant getaway from a tyre stop, and the unusual podium of two Benettons and local hero Aguri Suzuki.
The 1995 race also made a strong case for itself - a superb drive from Michael Schumacher, comedy retirements from Williams drivers Damon Hill and David Coulthard (although it's fair to say the team's no-nonsense technical director Patrick Head wasn't laughing) and a battling drive from Ferrari's Jean Alesi before his retirement (also with a driveshaft failure).
Having said that, it is hard to argue against 1993. It was one of Senna's great wet-weather victories after a race-long battle with arch-rival Prost and there was the sub-plot of Eddie Irvine's electrifying grand prix debut.
Drafted in by Jordan for the last two races of the year, the Northern Irishman qualified an excellent eighth, and used his knowledge of Suzuka gleaned from three years in Japanese Formula 3000 to pass Schumacher and Hill at the start.
Later in the race, while battling with Hill, Irvine had the temerity to unlap himself from Senna. And when the great Brazilian, a little the worse for wear, confronted Irvine about it after the race, he did not find the novice as apologetic as expected - the two got into a heated argument which ended with Senna punching Irvine.
A number of you asked on my last blog whether there was film of this argument. There isn't. But the journalist Adam Cooper was in the room with Irvine at the time, and he recorded the whole thing. A transcript of the row was published in Autosport magazine - for which both Cooper and I were working at the time - and you can read it here.
There were also questions about why we had not chosen the 1996 race, when Hill clinched the world title.
The answer is in the name of this series - classic grands prix. Hill is a popular man, and with good reason, but in no way could that race be called an all-time classic in comparison with others we have chosen.
To recap, the title battle had distilled by the time of Japanwhich was the last race of the season, into a fight between Williams team-mates Hill and Jacques Villeneuve.
Hill led by nine points going into the race - which meant the only way Villeneuve could be champion was if he won and the Englishman was out of the points.
Villeneuve increased the tension by qualifying on pole, ahead of Hill, but his chances were effectively ruined within seconds of the green light, when the Canadian made a poor start and dropped to sixth, behind Hill, Benetton's Gerhard Berger, Mika Hakkinen's McLaren, Schumacher's Ferrari and Irvine's Ferrari.
Villeneuve managed to get past Irvine, but was still in only fifth place when he retired when a rear wheel came off going into Turn One with 15 laps to go. Hill, meanwhile, led untroubled from the start, going only as fast as he needed to, keen to conserve his car.
A popular result, yes, especially in Britain. But a classic grand prix it was not.

Lets face it: a customized Aston Martin is not something you’ll see every day. And we can not understand why as a sexy car like Aston Martin DBS Volante has lots of potential. This is what Al & Eds Autosound in West Hollywood CA saw in the sports roadster and came up with an impressive update package.
The tuner installed 3M clear bra material on the full hood, fenders, bumper and on the carbon fiber exterior areas and added custom made skid plates and a new set of Giovanna GFG Series 3-piece forged California wheels. The car is painted in Fire Storm Black - black paint combined with the most beautiful red metallic flake.
For the interior the tuner is offering red Alcantara suede for the the seat and door panel, black perforated supple leather and red Alcantara for the steering wheel and carbon fiber inserts. And of course there is a new Escort 9500Ci top of the line ?Ticket Avoidance System?.

There are many things you associate with Brazil ? soccer, samba, and fine women come to mind ? before you describe them as a supercar factory, but that doesn?t mean that the country doesn?t have its share of exotic automakers.
In fact, there?s an upstart company in the country that?s set to introduce a new supercar at the Sao Paulo Auto Show. Gentlemen, we?d like to introduce you to the Rossin-Bertin Vorax.
As the brainchild of ex-GM designer Fharys Rossin and Natalino Bertin Jr., the Vorax is poised to become a Brazilian-born and made supercar that the company is hoping could become an upstart challenger to established European supercar makers.
Details behind the Vorax are still limited but from what we?ve heard, the car is going to come with a carbon fiber body and an aluminum chassis. As for the engine, the Vorax, which will come in two variants, will be powered with a tuned-up 5.0-liter V10 engine, similar to what?s under the hood of the BMW M5.
